America's Best College Towns

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, we learn that A college town or university town is a community (often literally a town, but possibly a small or medium sized city, or in some cases a neighborhood or a district of a city) which is dominated by its university population.

When we rank the college towns of America we are looking at beauty, proximity to campus, intimacy, isolation from major population centers, college bars, college hangouts, mom and pop food and retail businesses.  When you visit this town or neighborhood you must see students.

Your comments will be appreciated, or if you would like to nominate a college town for our rankings, send an email to drozda@tailgatershandbook.com.  Be sure to say why you think your town should be on the list.  Hint - If you wanted to nominate the area around The University of Chicago, you would nominate Hyde Park, not Chicago.  Chicago is not a college town, Hyde Park is.  The same holds true for Dinkeytown (buy the U) and Minneapolis.  We are looking for beautiful, neat towns that have "tweedy" shops and students everywhere.

Nominated so far are:

Lewisburg, PA (Bucknell)

Hamilton, NY (Colgate)

Bloomington, IN (Indiana)

Princeton, NJ (Princeton)
