Thomas Edward Bush, 77, of Chesterton passed away on May 17, 2017.

He was born on October 20, 1939, to Olive Marie (Swanson) and Harry Bert Bush. He was a third generation, life-long resident.

Thomas served as Police Commissioner of Chesterton from 1978-1990. Following in the footsteps of his father, Harry, (Deputy Town Marshal) and grandfather, George Harrison Bush, Chesterton’s first Town Marshal from 1924 to 1942. He also served in the Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 26 years. He worked in banking for 43 years.

He was immersed in the community. Always happy to have a conversation and never shy to let anyone know his thoughts. He was quick with a joke and often times showed affection by teasing people. He was happy to volunteer and lend a helping hand at his church, Bethlehem Lutheran. He could be found most mornings enjoying breakfast and great company at Round the Clock Restaurant. He loved taking a nickel from his 1957 classmates on the golf course. He was always eager to jump on a lawnmower. However, he spent the majority of his time taking care of his two highly regarded dogs, Chloe and Bubba. Most importantly, he was a wonderful father, grandfather, and a friend to so many. He will be dearly missed.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Matt) Genuit, son Scott (Janel) Bush, grandchildren, Sydney, Jada, and Jonathan, and his two beloved dogs, Chloe and Bubba. He is also survived by his sister, Anita Shepherd.
